I’m Michael Phillips, Jr., a worship pastor, songwriter, and arranger serving in the local church. My work is rooted in a desire to help congregations sing the truth of Scripture together through music that is both theologically rich and accessible.

Ministry & Music

I serve as Associate Pastor of Worship at First Baptist Church in Mexia, Texas, where I lead congregational worship and oversee the church’s music ministry. Working week by week with singers, instrumentalists, and a congregation shapes the music I write and arrange, with an emphasis on pieces that are both musically effective and practical for real churches.

Approach to Worship

I believe the songs of the church should help God’s people know, remember, and respond to the truth of Scripture. Whether I am planning worship, writing a new song, or arranging a familiar hymn, my goal is to serve the congregation rather than the performance — to create music that is singable, thoughtful, and centered on Christ.

Background

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy from Texas Woman’s University and a Master of Arts in Worship Leadership from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. My ministry experience includes service on staff at three Texas churches, and I am a member of the Singing Men of Texas. My primary instrument is guitar, with piano as a secondary instrument.
